Students Raise Awareness for Angel Hair Association at Carmel Valley Ralph’s

On January 11th, Sunday, five middle and high school students hosted an awareness table outside Ralph’s in Carmel Valley to introduce the community to the mission of Angel Hair Association (AHA). For three hours, the student volunteers spoke with shoppers about pediatric medical hair loss and the importance of hair donation.

The volunteers distributed informational flyers, answered questions about AHA’s hair donor support program, and shared how interested families and students can get involved. AHA does not collect hair or make wigs; instead, the organization supports youth hair donors as they grow their hair for donation by providing encouragement, resources, and recognition. When ready, donors ship their hair directly to established wig nonprofits that serve children experiencing medical hair loss.

“The awareness table was a meaningful opportunity for us to connect with our local community,” said one volunteer. “Many people were surprised to learn how much donated hair is needed for a single wig and how few organizations support youth donors during the growing phase.”

The event also provided valuable experience for the student volunteers, who helped with outreach, communication, and nonprofit engagement. The team plans to continue increasing visibility for AHA through future community events, school outreach, and hair donor recruitment during 2026.
